To get America in the mood for summer, Starbucks introduced two new items to their menu: the Lime-Frosted Coconut Bar and the Chocolate Cream Cold Brew.

This announcement is not shocking compared to the new items in the UK, which includes a chicken sandwich, two refreshers and five bakery items. Many of the flavors are raspberry or a fruit flavor.

Starting with the Cold Brew drink, it was pretty average. Much like the Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, it is one of the sweeter drinks on the menu. However, the chocolate version is a lot sweeter than expected, which was not a good thing. The taste resembles the leftover milk in a chocolate cereal topped with cold foam. While the drink is fine, it doesn’t capture the feeling of summer except for the fact that it is cold.

Next, the Lime-Frosted Coconut Bar is very interesting. The bar is just your average Starbucks bakery bar, but it was extremely small. it was only about four bites, and it could be less if I wasn’t taste-testing it. Aside from the size, the taste was also very unexciting. The lime icing tasted as if it was taken from the Iced Lemon Loaf and put on a coconut bar. The actual bar was bland and seemed as if they wanted it to have a ‘healthy’ taste to it. But, the item just wasn’t enough to bring any hype. It could have gone without existing.

Overall, the new items were more like little additions to the menu. They weren’t anything special and don’t really scream “summer.” I would have enjoyed more fruity items including new Frappuccinos (like the Mango Passionfruit Frappuccino in the UK) and warm-weather-inspired bakery items. All in all, the items weren’t bad, so I can’t complain too much.
