Contests For Black History Month

Governor Rick Scott and his first lady have announced the contests for this years black history month. There are contests for both teachers and administrators.

The first contest is The Excellence in Education Award and is to honor the teachers. Any full time African- American teacher can be nominated.

Three winners will be selected, one elementary school teacher, one middle school teacher and one high school teacher.

The second contest is the Student Art and Essay Contest. Any student that is a resident of Florida that can provide a Social Security Number is eligible to apply. Order forms must be filled out correctly, be legible and signed by a parent.

The theme for the student contests this year is “A celebration of African- American Innovation” The art contest is for grades K-3 and 2 winners will be accepted. The essay contest is for grades         4-12 and 3 winners will be selected.

Any of the three contest items and forms have to be sent in to 3800 Esplanade Way, Suite 180, Tallahassee, Fl and all forms must be received by no later than 5:00 pm on January, 21st. Winners will receive a four year Florida College Plan scholarship.
