Road Rage: It Can Wait

Dear terrible driver,
Texting and driving is the leading cause of fatal crashes in the United States and kills almost 3,000 teens each year.
Do not text and drive. Actually, let me generalize that for all the teens that will claim that they weren’t specifically “texting and driving.” No snapchatting, retweeting things on twitter, checking your Instagram feed, seeing what’s up on your Tumblr, revining, swiping right, swiping left, seeing who friended you on Facebook (if anyone besides your parents ever actually do that anymore) and finally no texting.
I feel like out of all age groups, teens like myself would feel the most pressure to attempt at a quick glance at their phone while driving, but even I don’t find an excuse to do it. And practically my entire life revolves around my phone and social media. With teens especially, they feel like it’s no big deal despite the constant warning from others about the dangers of texting and driving.
There’s almost no way to get the message across to teens that that text from your best friend about the party last night is not worth risking your life and putting the other drivers around you in danger besides that plain fact.
So please put down the phone. I know you may feel like the world is going to end if you don’t check that text about Suzie’s party, but your world may actually end by looking over at your phone.
With love (but also rage),
M. Felt
