Smash or dash? Smash Burger restaurant review

The Classic Smash Burger and Smash Fries

Nathalie Monroy, Staff Writer

Smashburger is one of the most talked about of the many new, and might I say much needed, restaurants at the plaza on South Dale Mabry.

This new burger joint offers a variety of burgers, including the Classic Smash and the Avocado Club. These burgers are comprised of fresh, never frozen meat that are quite literally “smashed” to perfection. With that, you also have the option of their signature sides– like their original Smashfries, as well as their hand-spun Häagen-Dazs shakes.

As a first time customer, I entered the restaurant with quite high expectations- seeing as it looked pretty snazzy and like your not-so-typical burger joint- and I was not disappointed.

I ordered the Classic Smash Burger, which came with their original Smash Sauce, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and American cheese. Now, since I got such a typical burger I expected it to taste like any other. But it was actually quite flavorful, and meat didn’t taste dry or bland. With my burger I ordered a side of their signature Smash Fries, which are tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary and garlic. The fries were my favorite part—those extra ingredients added great seasoning and flavor. And to top it off, I ordered an Oreo Häagen-Dazs shake.

So it was a good food experience, but the only negatives would, for me, be the prices. In total, everything I ordered I paid around $13! Don’t get me wrong, the food was delicious and it’s not too overpriced, but I don’t know if it was worth $13.
