Since Kiss of Life had their debut, they have been doing nothing but growing their popularity and releasing music that never disappoints, and this mini album is no exception. This group consists of 4 members, Haneul, Julie, Belle and Natty, who never fail to impress fans with their amazing vocals and rap. Just like their name, they plan on bringing fresh new music that can revitalize K-pop and give it new life. They have been doing this since they started putting out music together.
Track 1: GET LOUD
The title track of this mini album, “Get Loud” is the perfect mix of a K-pop song and Kiss of Life’s style. It has a very catchy chorus, open for great choreography, but also has a similar vibe to 2000’s Britney Spears. The members’ harmonization and vocals in this song really show how flexible each member is and how well they sing together. I personally really enjoy this song and like to listen to it while I’m walking around school.
Track 2: R.E.M
“R.E.M” (or Rapid Eye Movement), is an angelic song about dreaming of someone in REM sleep, and never wanting to wake up. This song is perfect for watching the rain and being happy with where you are in the moment. I personally like the lyrics, “Racing, Eyes are always pacing, Mind forever pacing,” since it shows the title at the beginning of each sentence. Its fluid chorus and backtracking really enhance this song, and demonstrates the girls’ ability to make any type of music. Despite not being a person who listens to slower songs, Kiss of Life has always made me enjoy the ones that they create.
Track 3: CHEMISTRY
The third song on this album is a classic love song with two people having a strong connection, or “Chemistry.” This song is what I would consider a break in between other songs; it’s very nice to listen to and has only good vibes. My personal favorite part is the bridge and the way they sing, “푹 빠져들 emotion’s ride (emotion’s ride)” (or “Falling deep into emotion’s ride” in English), it is truly heavenly. Everything about this song is an example of how amazing they are at R&B; it really is refreshing to see it in a K-pop group.
Track 4: IGLOO
“Igloo” has a totally different vibe from the previous songs, showing off their rapping skills. This song is about feeling full confidence in yourself, but with its slow backtrack, it makes the song feel laid back. There isn’t much to say about this song, other than it being a solid song.
Track 5: TOO MANY ALEX
This is one of the more fun-sounding songs on the album, I could really only describe it as groovy. I find this track really creative with both the title and lyrics as well as being funny too with its topic being having too many guys on your phone, and all of them being the same. Kiss of Life are amazing lyricists, especially in this song; their use of “Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V” to describe the people they talk to as copy and paste is absolutely genius.
Track 6: BACK TO ME
This bittersweet song about overcoming heartbreak from a terrible relationship really emphasizes the end of something. If not for “No One But Us,” I would think this would be the perfect way to finish this album. The atmosphere that it creates is honestly just so fun. I can see it as the type of song at the end of a movie or a long road trip. In my opinion, this song truly radiates the energy of growing, whether it’s age or just mentally.
Track 7: NO ONE BUT US
I think that this track is both good in the album, but also amazing independently. “No One But Us” sounds so much like an American pop hit from 2016 so much so, that I could’ve sworn I’ve heard it before. My favorite segment of this song is the bridge. The rhyming scheme that they chose to use for it makes it so catchy and makes it feel so free. If I had to be picky, I would say that I don’t necessarily like the chorus. The build-up is so good, that I am slightly upset that it doesn’t lead to something with lots of instrumentals. Otherwise, I love the wave of nostalgia I get when listening to this song.
To conclude, Kiss of Life has always been making good music that is either just a good time to listen to, or that touches you in an astonishing way. I’m glad that they immediately found their sound from the start to serve Kissy (Fan name) amazing songs. I truly would recommend them if any of these songs feel like your vibe or something you would listen to. They have exceeded my expectations and more. I can’t wait to see what they will create in the future.
