Hector Marin is the latest addition to Robinson’s sophomore class.

When he arrived in November, his fellow IB sophomores were surprised to see him. He would be their first new classmate since coming to Robinson.

According to the International Baccalaureate rules, students are not allowed to enter the program after freshman year. That is, unless they have already been accepted and are transferring from another IB program.

Marin says he is adjusting well to his new surroundings.

“JA didn’t exist [at my old school],” said Marin. “It makes it a lot easier and I can actually get stuff done.”

Marin believes  the biggest difference is the block schedule.

“I used to have to turn work in the next day.”

Marin has also had to adapt to new classes, despite having come from another IB school.

“Trigonometry wasn’t a class, I had to take trig with geometry.”

This is slightly challenging for Marin because he now has to recall old information. He is also facing a difficult task in his AP European History class.

“I was in AP U.S History before I moved,” he says. “I have to read quite a bit to catch up.”

Marin now has to learn 10 chapters of AP European history before his mid-term exam coming up.

However, he remains optimistic.

“It’s not great, but I’ll figure it out.”
