This year’s prom king and queen, Malik Williams (‘25) and Noelle Sizemore (‘25), were crowned to cheers and celebration on the dance floor this Saturday night. These two were elected by their peers for the role, and both fought off tough competition. But what do they think about it?
- Why did you decide to run for prom court?
M: I decided to run for prom king because it’s my senior year, and I haven’t run for anything all four years of being here. So, I was like, might as well go out with a bang, since it’s my senior year.
N: Originally, I wasn’t even planning on running; I just thought it would be a fun idea when I mentioned it at lunch. My friends and family convinced me to go for it kinda last minute, and I just thought ‘oh what the heck, why not!’ It’s my senior year, what do I have to lose?’
- Did you think you would win?
M: At first, yeah, I did. Then Joey came out of nowhere and said he was gonna run, but didn’t end up running. So that was like, there was really a competition.
N: If I’m being so honest, I didn’t think I was going to win, especially with it only being my second year at Robinson. There were way more girls running this year, so I was a bit nervous!
- Did you campaign at all?
M: I made a poster, and I put it up in the lunchroom, and I made an Instagram Reel, and I sent it to everybody and told them to repost it.
N: Yes, I campaigned! My friends chipped in and helped me make posts and collages so I could put them up on Instagram. The whole process was super fun.
- What did you think of the dance itself?
M: The venue was good. The AC, I don’t know, wasn’t working, I guess, it was really hot in there. They just had cookies and fruit punch in the back, I didn’t really indulge in the cookies or the fruit punch; I was really there. And the music was ok, the DJ could have done better, but overall, it was a great experience.
N: The dance itself was fun! Although I do wish there had been a little more music variety since I’m not a big fan of all the rap music. I had a great time with my date and all my friends, even though parking was a little wack.
- How did you feel when you found out that you had won?
M: I was super hype, because at first they were announcing the queen, and then they announced my contest… there was really no drum roll or excitement to it, but I was still excited that I won prom king.
N: I was super excited! I was so happy when I heard my name called, it was a great way to end the night and wrap up my senior year.
