Every Floridian knows hurricane season lasts from June 1 to Nov. 1. Every Floridan also knows the five categories that classify the intensity. While serious storms should be treated as such and properly prepared for, the stereotype of Floridians being fearless of the storms remains prominent. Jokes are made about Waffle Houses closing or Publix creating cakes for the “occasion.”
