NHS Drive to Benefit Humane Society
November 5, 2015
Over the past few weeks, National Honor Society hosted two drives: one to collect non-perishable foods and one to collect glow-sticks. In their last club meeting, Madeline Strasen (’16) proposed an idea to host a Humane Society Supply Drive. It was almost unanimously approved, and the club members collected supplies for it this week.
NHS members have to reach a minimum of 35 points in their junior year and 50 points in their senior year. Bringing in a drive item will give the members a certain number of points, according to a list that club sponsor Niki Lockett posted on the NHS class page on Edsby.
The Humane Society of Pinellas is located outdoors, and much of the money is spent on heating and cooling the animals rather than providing necessary supplies.
“I love working with animals and the size of the shelter requires a vast amount of volunteers,” Strasen said.
This drive includes items such as cat and dog food, collars, toys and pooper scoopers. NHS members can earn up to ten points by bringing in these items to Lockett’s office by Friday, November 6.
