Five named National Merit Semifinalists
September 16, 2016
Five Robinson seniors were named National Merit Semifinalists Wednesday due to their high PSAT scores, receiving the opportunity to compete for more than $33 million dollars worth of scholarships offered next spring.
“I feel ecstatic about our National Merit Scholar Semifinalists,” Principal Robert Bhoolai said. “When you talk about 60,000 students across the nation receiving this award when Hillsborough County alone has 200,000 students, it really is a needle in a hay stack.”
Approximately 90% of semifinalists will become finalists, who will compete with other finalists across the country for 7,500 open slots offered by the National Merit, in addition to corporate-sponsored and college-sponsored scholarships
Also announced Wednesday were students honored by the National Hispanic Recognition Program, which recognizes high-scoring Hispanics students based on their PSAT scores.
