It has been almost three weeks since Brian Hoover, Robinson’s assistant principal for magnet curriculum in charge of the RHS IB program, was transferred from Robinson to an administrative position at Spoto High School. Now, the vacant position left by Hoover is being filled by Matthew Johnson, the former assistant principal for student affairs at Armwood High School.

“I’ve been interested in taking on a curriculum role for a while, so I heard about the opening and I wanted to apply,” Johnson said.

On Wednesday at Robinson’s conference night Johnson toured Robinson with principal Robert Bhoolai, meeting the school’s teachers and faculty for the first time.

He has read good things about Robinson, and looks forward to meeting students and staff at his new school.

“I’m from the other side of town, so I’m excited to learn more about what Robinson’s about and how to help people,” Johnson said.

Johnson believes that his background at Armwood, which has a collegiate academy program, will help in supervising the IB magnet program, as will all of his past experience working with students.

He thinks that helping students have a successful school experience is a team effort. Johnson hopes to connect with RHS’ community of students, teachers, and faculty, and to let students know that he is there to support them.

“My main goal is just to help our students become what they want to be, whatever that takes,” Johnson said.
