On Saturday, October 26th, Robinson’s marching band competed in its biggest event of the year: MPA. At the music performance assessment, bands perform their marching show in front of a group of judges, who then grade the band based on their performance. At MPA, a band can be given four grades: poor, good, excellent and superior. A band awarded a superior can be considered one of the best in the county.
“The work that we did over the last 5 months got us all superiors in every category, and comments from the judges were very minimal,” trumpet player Hesham Samarah (’28) said. “Some judges complimented our sound as an overall band, and some really loved the effect we made in our music with our marching visuals.”
Saying Robinson excelled at MPA wouldn’t be an exaggeration, earning straight superiors is no easy task. To achieve this lofty accolade, a band must perform exceptionally in every category they are judged on. The marching knights did exactly that, demonstrating a clear mastery over this year’s show.
This achievement didn’t come without hardship, however. Robinson’s marching band has been practicing for months, convening multiple times a week to practice in the scorching heat, with the goal of straight superiors at MPA in mind.
This impressive triumph is another brick in the palace of Robinson’s excellency in marching band, continuing a streak of incredible performances in the event.
“This year we raised our overall superior streak to twelve years,” baritone captain Sophia Wolfson (’26) said. “This award shows a culmination of all the hard work and dedication we’ve put in earlier in the year.”
With the marching season beginning to draw to a close, MPA was a great way to conclude yet another great marching band season. With the pile of trophies in the band room continuing to grow larger, it can be easily concluded that the marching knights continue to reign superior.
