‘Cinderella’ Good Revamp on Classic
April 2, 2015
Disney has recently converted the classic Cinderella animation into a live action picture. The new version is almost identical to the original tale, unlike their recent convert of Sleeping Beauty, “Maleficent” which reveals a different side to an original story.
Ella is a common girl who lives with her parents in the woods. Before Ella’s mother dies, she gave her important instructions. Ella is to have courage and to be kind. After her father passes away, she is unfortunately left with her evil stepmother and stepsisters who treat her with no respect and use her as their maid. But, her whole life changes when she meets a stranger in the woods.
Despite having the exact same story line as the classic, a few different details stand out. To start off, the animals do not talk in this live action film. This makes it seem more realistic. But do not worry, iconic characters like “Gus-Gus” are still featured on screen. The Prince also meets Cinderella in the woods before the ball while hunting.
The casting of the film is spot on. Cinderella is played by Lily James. She brings pure and elegant qualities to her character. She looks like a princess dressed in rags and with dirt on her face. Richard Madden plays Prince Charming and he is, well, charming. The pair have great chemistry together on screen and make the “love at first sight” myth seem real.
The Fairy God-Mother is played by Helena Bonham Carter. She brings a comedic element to the tale when she helps Cinderella get ready for the ball. The stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella, are also amusing due to their greediness.
Although this new production is very similar to the original Cinderella made in the 1950’s, it brings fantastic new aspects. Disney seems to be following the trend of “Out with the old, and in with the new”. And I am not complaining.
