For the third time since 2010, the San Francisco Giants are World Series champions. Kansas City was able to force a Game 7 with a win on Tuesday night, but the Giants came back to win the series  on Wednesday with a 3-2 victory at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Sacrifice flies by Michael Morse and Brandon Crawford gave San Francisco a 2-0 lead in the second, but Kansas City came back to score two in their half of the second to tie the game. Alex Gordon’s RBI double trimmed the deficit to one before Omar Infante’s sacrifice fly tied it. Giants starting pitcher Tim Hudson did not make it out of the second inning.

San Francisco scored their third run in the fourth inning on a RBI single from Morse, his second RBI of the night.

After Jeremy Affeldt tossed two and one-thirds scoreless innings for the Giants in relief of Hudson, Madison Bumgarner, usually a starter, entered in relief.

Holding a 3-2 lead, Bumgarner scattered just two hits over five shutout innings to earn the save in San Francisco’s series-clinching win. The five scoreless innings lowered Bumgarner’s 2014 postseason ERA to 0.43. He recorded the final out when Kansas City’s Salvador Perez popped out to Pablo Sandoval in foul territory, starting a night of celebration for the Giants and their fans.

The World Series title is the franchise’s third in five years and their eighth overall.
