Girls Basketball:

The Lady Knights (22-3) ended their season with a 83-52 loss to Lakewood (26-4) in the FHSAA Regional Finals game on Friday, Feb. 23. Though the Lady Knights were fortunate enough to host the game, the crowd was taken over by Lakewood fans, contributing to the frazzled game played by the Lady Knights.

“It’s heart breaking because we aren’t playing together any more and basketball season is over,” point guard Kaliah Henderson (’19) said. “But we learn from our experiences. Hopefully we let the game go and grow from it.”

Boys Basketball:

The Knights (7-17) ended their season with a 72-54 loss to Booker in the regional quarterfinals on Thursday, Feb. 23. Though they carried the momentum in the first half, the Knights couldn’t sustain the lead with consistent turnovers. Click here to read more about the game on Thursday.

“Even though we still lost more games than we won, we still got to go to district champs… we still got to make the playoffs,” captain David Jean-Louis (’18) said. “I wish the young guys a lot of success in the future. I hope they go deeper in the playoffs than we did and have a chance to win that district championship.”

Wrestling:

The wrestling regional finals took place on Friday, Feb. 23, at Brandon High School. Jadyden Alvarez (’19), Conner Goddu (’19) JaQuan Jackson (’18) took first in their respected weight divisions. Isaac Guillermo (’19), Josean Casiano (’19), Samuel Delgado (’20), and Devin “DJ” Jandura (’19) all placed second.

But the team seemed to agree that Goddu was one of the top performers.

“It was his first final performance and he did moves that we didn’t know that he knew,” said Jackson.

Wrestling will advance to states this Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee (1875 Silver Spur Ln., 34744).

Baseball:

The Knights (0-2) started their season with two big losses this week, starting with a 7-0 shutout to Plant on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Click here to read the game recap.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, the Knights hosted Newsome in their home-opener and were defeated 15-4. The Knights had two rough innings defensively, giving up four runs in the first inning and six in the sixth. They also lacked power at the plate, ending the night with six hits. Newsome had 14.

“The problem is, we hurt ourselves on top of the fact that they’re another very good team.” Head coach Kevin McCray said. “We’re a fairly inexperienced teams and when we’re playing good schools, we can’t help them. Tonight we helped them quite a bit.”

The Knights face Lennard on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Lennard High School (2002 E. Shell Point Road, 33570).

Softball:

The Lady Knights (4-4) shutout rival Plant 8-0 last Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Angela Slater kick-Off tournament was also held last week from Feb. 22-24. The team shutout East Bay 15-0, and won 15-12 against East Lake during the tournament. They suffered two losses against Plant City, 4-1, and Sickles, 4-3.

“Because of our hard work and determination, we have completley transformed the reputation of Robinson softball,” outfielder Tara White (‘18) said. “During the Plant game last Tuesday, our team was confident and polished. Personally, I played very well.”

The team will face Lennard on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Lennard High School (2002 E. Shell Point Road, 33570).

Track:

Robinson’s track team took on Berkeley this past weekend, on Saturday, Feb. 24. 16 members of the team had top 10 finishes, including Sophia Crassas (’20) who ran the two mile, Myron Ausby (’18) who ran the 400 meter and pole vaulter Mason Gonzalez (’18).

“We did good [sic] as a team overall. Our team keeps improving,” Crassas said. “Individually, I have room for improvement, but I think I did pretty well on Saturday.”

The Knights will face Jesuit on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at Jesuit High School (4701 N Himes Ave, 33614).

Tennis:

The girls tennis team went up against their rival, Plant, on Tuesday, Feb. 20 in a non-conference game ending in a win of 5-2 for the Lady Knights. Alara Hollyfield (‘18), Elliot Peterson (‘19), Ashley Osiason (‘18) and Kaki McNeel (‘18) all won their matches and contributed to the team’s win. Osiason also won a match against King in a tiebreaker.

The boys faced Jesuit, Plant, Freedom and Spoto. Nick Chesney had the top score of 5-7, with wins against Freedom and Spoto. The doubles team, consisting of Nikhil Pardeep (’19) and Ross Scaglione (’19), beat Plant 8-4.

“We are working really well on our singles matches but our goal is to improve our team unity and our doubles game so we can get ahead of our opponents,” McNeel said.

The team next meet will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Leto High School (4409 W Sligh Ave, 33614).
