The Robinson Wrestling Knights fought against Alonso on Tuesday, Jan. 23. This tournament holding varsity and junior varsity also functioned as Senior Night. Although the first half set up a promise of failure, the wrestling team ended the meet with a win of 52-18 for both varsity and junior varsity.
Although facing tough opposition, many of Robinson’s wrestlers succeeded in their individual matches. One example of such was Yanichel Or (’25). Even though Or was dealt with a messed-up knee during the match, she refused to forfeit.
“I hurt my knee. I was freaking out, because I was really overwhelmed,” Or said. “But I put it on the mat, you know? I went into the match with an aggressive mindset.”
Or won the match, taking the honored title of the first winner of the night.
Some other winners throughout the night were Justin Tudor (’25), Ben Gingerella (’28) and Dominic Hernandez (’24).
Overall, the Wrestling Senior Night was a success for the Robinson Knights. With the season coming to a close in the following weeks, the last 8 of the tournaments are certainly promising.
