Prior to the 2024 2A District 8 Championships, many Robinson swimmers expressed weariness that the team wouldn’t be able to secure their usual success through the competition.
“There were some teams that were in Districts this year that dropped down in class. We were scared that they were gonna win,” 4-year Robinson Swimmer William Tate (’25) said.
Alongside the altering of teams participating in the competition, there were other factors that were stacked against Robinson.
“Seminole moved up from 1A last year, into districts. Seminole picked up a guy…that’s one of the top swimmers in the nation right now,” Swim Captain Tiki Keats (’25) said.
Through Oct 31 to Nov 2, 2024, the Boys and Girls did participate in the FHSAA 2A District 8 Championship. Most players found themselves getting even better times than their last competitions.
“Districts were great. [Our] athletes have all dropped times,” Head Coach Lindsay Rubenstein said. “We had some kids drop 2 seconds; we had some kids drop 10 seconds. We were performing very well.”
The Robinson Team left the championship with 6 Silver and 5 Bronze, and 459.5 points, cementing First Place at Districts.
“Districts, overall, as a team were very good. Individually, I was a lot faster last season, a had a lot of great spots,” Keats said. “Our team’s looking like the best team, going into Regionals. We’re looking to keep the streak alive, going into Regionals.”
Although we’ve had a constant win streak at Districts, the Robinson Swim Teams have yet to win the FHSAA Region 3 Championship. But with a steady increase in the school’s national ranking, and supporting results from Districts, some believe that Robinson has not been in a more perfect spot than to win Regionals.
“The boys are under the impression that the boys’ team can be regional champions,” Rubenstein said.
