As of their game against East Lake on April 3, Robinson Boys Lacrosse is at an overall 12-3. At what some would call the peak of their season; the Robinson Knights had a win streak of 10. The Robinson Lacrosse team has seen an unprecedented amount of success this year, which the team has never encountered until this season. With Playoffs rapidly approaching, there isn’t a better time to bite into and chew on what’s making the team so great this year.
Although this year is his first as the head coach, Toby Anderson has been coaching on the side for years and many players would pin some of the success on him. Along with assistant coaches Brian Gehres and Alex Demarco, this staff has put in special care the last four years to make this year the best.
“I would say that our success is tied to our great coaches, who really helped us stuck with us for the past 3 years, turning us from an 0-7 team to a 12-3 team,” Defensive Captain Aidan Parks (’25) said.
Along with the strong coaching, the ratio of seniors on the team has played a crucial role in the team’s success.
“This year’s seniors started their freshmen and sophomore years, and they’ve been practicing for 3 and 4 years,” first-year player Devon Hittle (’27) said. “So, this is their year to kind of show out…the team grew, with the seniors.”
“We’ve had a lot of talent, really, really early on. [at first], we didn’t do so good, but by sticking it out, us Seniors have become very good,” Parks said.
All lacrosse captains led the team to success, along with the coaches.
“Aidan Parks…Connor Adair, and Alex Hu is another Captain, as voted. They keep the offense and defense squared on the field,” Hittle said. “During a game, Aidan Parks, he’s always talking, he’s always on everything. [Connor]’s an amazing Midi. They’re both just very outstanding leaders. There’re people that I’d never imagine yelling at the top of their lungs on the sideline, or in the game, just because of these guys who are [leading]. It’s just contagious.”
But an argument can be made for the entirety of the school, pushing the team to new heights.
“I don’t think it’s just us [seniors],” Adair said. “From the people on the sideline screaming the whole time or everybody on the field trying to put everything they have into the game. I think it’s everyone, I don’t it’s just the leaders.”
The Knights will cement whether or not it’s just been luck on Friday, April 10, in their home turf game against Northside Christian.
“[Northside Christian]’s a pretty legit school. We did beat them during the preseason tournament, but they were also missing some players, so it could swing both ways,” Parks said.
Despite a win or a loss, the Robinson Boys Lacrosse Team certainly has a new reputation going into future seasons. Even after the seniors leave this year, the team’s future still looks bright.
“Next year, we’re going to be losing like 10, 11 people. So, it’s going to be very rough next year, but we’re going to build up just like they did,” Hittle said. “After going 12-3, people are going to start hearing about Robinson Lacrosse.”
