Julian Thompson is a senior at Robinson and a Staff Writer for the Knight Writers. This is his first year on staff.
Thompson was drawn to the likes of Knight Mic by two other Knight Writers residents who had been working on staff for the past year. Aside from kinship, Thompson had a past of photography already, with a side Instagram account to share his amateur work.
“All my besties are in newspaper,” Thompson said. “Photography opened my lens to the world, and joining the Mic Knight crew will, I hope, open my lens to true joy.”
Outside of the classroom, his mother inspires and guides him.
“My biggest inspiration is definitely my mom; she supported my photography and always keeps my tummy full. And I tell you, she can cook up mean tortellini,” Thompson said.
After high school, Thompson wishes to pursue film. But it goes deeper, Thompson said he feels connected to all aspects of film in the cinematography, writing the script and directing. Perhaps, one day, you’ll see his name in bold when the credits roll for your favorite new movie.
“Movies are like a book, you have to watch past the cover, the actors acting and really dig deep into what’s behind the scenes and what created the story. With the job comes the money, and with the money comes the honey,” Thompson said.
In Thompson’s spare time, away from the worries of school and peer pressure, he finds comfort in the show Cobra Kai.
“I found the show in the solitude of the Covid 19 and, since then, there have been 6 seasons keeping me on the edge of my seat. I aspire to live by the teachings of Miyagi Do but the moto of Kobra Kai to ‘strike first, strike hard, no mercy’ speaks to me in volumes,” Thompson said.
