Starring Brie Bella, Corbin Bleu, Stephen Boss and many others, Fox is coming out with a new show called “The Real Dirty Dancing” every Tuesday at 9 p.m.

The show is about eight celebrities stepping into the shoes of Baby and Johnny from the 80’s hit movie “Dirty Dancing.” The celebrities partner up and learn the iconic dances where the movie was filmed. While trying to master the recognizable scenes, the stars have the “time of their lives.”

With the movie being released 35 years ago, the show’s concept pays tribute to the original while adding a new twist relevant to today’s pop culture. True fans that grew up with the film see it in a new light, with the show revitalizing their interest, while at the same time bringing the Gen Z crowd in to watch the classic movie to understand the meaning of the show better.

Only one episode has been released and so far, I love the idea of the competition-style show and how they are filming the entire show on the set of “Dirty Dancing.” The show consists of the four pairs learning a routine and then performing it 24 hours later. As a reference, the show inserts clips of the film to give a side-by-side of what Baby and Johnny were doing compared to what each celebrity is performing. The stars are acting as Baby and Johnny and reenacting scenes from the movie. The winner is the pair that best portrayed Baby and Johnny.

I typically don’t care for reality tv shows and all the drama that ensues. While a certain level of conflict seems inevitable with any competition show, after viewing the first episode, I feel like with this show and its cast, it doesn’t seem like too much of that will happen.
