Jump Cup opened recently on Gandy and Himes, in a cute little building that used to be a Poke Bowl Place. It’s a drive thru cafe, and it’s bright blue and orange branding helps it stand out on the busy intersection. This is the second location for the small business, with the other store located on Kennedy. It’s been receiving a lot of attention since its debut, and there is often a long line of cars down the block, but does it live up to the hype?
Jump Cup offers a wide variety of options, from regular coffee drinks to Italian soda to signature lattes. The signature iced lattes are fun and colorful, with flavors like Flower Power and Hazelnut Heaven. They also offer food like breakfast sandwiches, parfaits, and croissants.
The food and drinks are a little more expensive at Jump Cup than the nearby Starbucks, with most items on the menu costing around $5 to $6. However, I do think that as a small, local startup, it makes sense for them to have to charge more than their chain competitors.
When I went, I got an iced latte and a cold brew for $11. The service was relatively fast, the employees were polite and helpful, and it was a convenient stop on my way home. In terms of the actual taste, the coffee was pretty strong and didn’t taste watered down, even with all the ice and milk that was added. It was definitely well-made coffee, even if it wasn’t all that special compared to other local cafes in the Tampa area.
Overall, I think that Jump Cup offers quality coffee and a fun energy and is a great treat every now and then. So, if you’re ever in need of a quick pick-me-up (and there isn’t a line down the block), I would highly recommend giving it a try.
