October is one of the most festive months of the year, and in my opinion, the atmosphere that this season generates beats any other holiday. Between carving pumpkins, finding a Halloween costume, and baking pumpkin-themed desserts, there’s so much to do to get you in the Halloween spirit. Although those are always great options, here are a few more activities to try out for an extra spooky season.
- Movie Nights- Everyone knows that scary movies are a staple of the Halloween season. One way to take full advantage of this is to make a whole night out of it: get a group of friends, some snacks and settle in for a night of horror movies. There are so many options with this activity, and you can customize it to whatever vibe you’re looking for; whether it’s a true horror movie like Us, a slasher like Scream or a classic like The Nightmare Before Christmas. This can be a great way to spend time with your loved ones while also appreciating the spirit of the season.
- Making Playlists- I am someone who enjoys making playlists regularly, but for Halloween, it can be even more fun. The choice comes when deciding whether to create a true playlist for the holiday, with songs like Michael Jackson’s Thriller, or just a playlist with fall vibes, like Girl in Red’s We Fell in Love in October. Either way, this can be a great activity to fill your free time and get you off social media. Listening to it for the next few weeks is a great way to appreciate the fall season.
- Halloween Crafts- Although this is something that can be easily paired with the movie night idea, it can also work well as a standalone activity. There are so many fun crafts for Halloween, like DIYing your own costume or painting pumpkins, but there are so many more ideas available on social media if you need inspiration. One of my favorite ideas is to make yourself into a Coraline doll using clay, yarn, wire and scraps of felt. Of course, that’s a little more involved, but you can make it as simple or complicated as you want. Once again, this is a great way to spend time with friends, and a creative activity to get into the Halloween mood.
- Haunted Houses- Lastly, if you’re looking for an activity that gets you out of the house, haunted houses make for a great night out. Whether you support a smaller local haunted house run for charity, or visit one of the many haunted amusement parks in Florida, this is a great way to get that Halloween thrill and have a great time with your friends.
Hopefully, one of these four ideas is something you’re looking for. So, next time you’re not sure what to do on a free October night, go out and take advantage of the fall season.
