After RHS’s principal, Robert Bhoolai, took a leave of absence to take care of family matters, there was a need for a step-in principal. Luckily, Robinson High School welcomes David Brown as our new principal for these last 9 weeks of the 2021-2022 school year. Since he is an alumnus, Brown plans on changing Robinson for the better. Let’s get to know Brown a bit better and get a closer look at his goals.

Where are you from?

“I am from South Tampa [which means] I am a SOG.”

Since you went here as a student, what are your favorite memories here?

“I guess sporting events because tenth through twelfth year we had an awesome basketball team and I loved going to the basketball games. At that time, I was a peer facilitator, which basically means we handle some issues with kids and stuff like that.”

After Robinson, where did you go to college?  

“I went to the University of South Florida, and I was going to be an accountant. That didn’t work out, so I went into education.”

What do you do for fun?

“I do a lot of things. I spend time with my family, and we are definitely Disney folks, so we go to Disney a lot. I like to golf even though don’t do it well.”

What was your first impression of these students?

“I love the students. I’ve been a high school principal for 14 years and at 5 different schools. I opened Strawberry Crest and Sumner High school, and [was] an assistant principal at Freedom and Leto High School… I said I would always go back and be a principal at 2 schools, [one of them being Robinson] because I think the kids are great here. I think it’s a great school, it’s small and everybody gets to know each other.”

What does it feel like coming into a new school with less than 9 weeks left?

“It’s not like that bad because like I said I was a principal for 14 years. I just want to make sure we get through this end of the 9 weeks because it is the busiest 9 weeks with the seniors getting ready for graduation [and] getting the IB kids out and making sure they’re getting all their testing done. I just want to make sure everything runs smoothly so we can close the year on a high note.”

What are your goals to finish out this RHS year?

“I don’t know if I have goals so much, I definitely want the seniors to not miss out on anything. You know you work so hard for 13 years, you want your senior year to be the best, so I want to make sure as we get ready for cap and gown distribution, grad bash, prom, I want to make sure everything ruins smoothly.”
