With great books comes great knowledge. Robinson’s librarian, Shannon Chamberlain, has been recognized for her extensive knowledge and has been awarded a major librarian award from the district this year.
“Once a year, there is a meeting with all of the libraries from high schools and middle schools in the county, and we all have a get-together. We hang out, eat dinner and socialize,” Chamberlain said.
Chamberlain had an outstanding time with her friends, the amazing people and the delicious food. She was happy and a little embarrassed at the same time.
“Everyone knew that I was going to get the award except for me; my friend nominated me for the media specialist award without me knowing, and when my name was called. I knew it was my friend, because she had the biggest smile ever,” Chamberlain said. “I got nominated as the Primary Media Specialist [high school level]; and basically, you just get bragging rights for the rest of the year, and you get a plaque with your name and status on it.”
This significant accomplishment further encourages librarians to do even better because it helps recognize their accomplishments, and it shows that all of their hard work has paid off. Chamberlain was ecstatic about the award and received an even bigger one following her return to Robinson. Not only did she get a plaque and an amazing night because of her friends, but she also got a surprise from our school’s administration.
“It was sometime during the day, I had students in the library, and the APs [assistant principals] and the principal [Mr. Brown] made an unexpected appearance and entered with a small speech in mind, a clap out and a celebration, and it was just really sweet and I was so happy,” Chamberlain said.
Ms. Chamberlain loves her job as our school’s librarian, helping students with anything from picking out a book to researching their homework. She’s everything a school like ours hopes for in a librarian who would want and need to help keep our students motivated!
“Mrs. Chamberlain is an amazing person and she does an amazing job as a librarian and media specialist, she’s quick to help someone in need, and she deserves this award more than anyone else does,” Assistant Principal Christopher Petit said.
Doing her absolute best to support Robinson’s students, staff and teachers, she thinks outside the box and is dedicated to finding answers to our questions.
“She does her absolute best with trying to recruit and get people to go to the library, and she loves to help students, staff, and anyone else who has questions and asks for advice; she gives them the best she can, and would do it again,” Petit said.
With exams coming up, she is especially hyper-focused on helping students understand all curricula and subjects, with getting everything ready to go so students can go to the library and look for things they need. She lets them study and get what they need done to help them succeed.
“She puts in a lot of hard work and effort, and she goes above and beyond when it comes to picking out books and spending her money on activities she thinks everyone will like,” Petit said.
With all of the hard work and dedication, Chamberlain was able to make the library into a place of relaxation, a workplace and an overall fun place to be. She has outdone herself this year, and she continues to amaze people.
“I’m personally proud of her and all the hard work that she has put into the media center. After the school was rebuilt, she put in a lot of work and effort to make it feel and look more comforting and at home for the students,” Petit said. “Chamberlain took the initiative to make it more of a peaceful, but cool learning environment for the students as well, and it’s exactly what she accomplished. And I think that deserves a shout-out, and a job well done.”
