Starting this school year, Mrs. Scott has joined the Robinson English department.
Scott became an English teacher for her love of reading; she loves dialogue in literature, and among the many parts of the English curriculum, Scott’s favorite part is the novel studies; including the all-time classic “Lord of the Flies,” by William Golding. She likes the novel for how quickly students can connect with it.
“I love hearing from students, hearing their perspective on literature,” she said. “I think it opens up a lot of other subject areas.”
When Scott was in high school for her career expo, she made her project on being a teacher. She looked at her teacher and said, “I could do that.” For part of her life Scott wanted to go into fashion; but being a teacher “was kind of in my blood,” she said. Both her parents, and both of her grandparents, were teachers. Her roots brought her to Robinson; her family went to school here.
“So, when I was in college, I interned middle school students,” Scott said. “That was all I needed to [teach] in high school. I love the high school students, especially that they’re able to develop their thoughts a little deeper than middle schoolers. I knew elementary wasn’t for me.”
An interest for Scott is supporting Florida State University (FSU) football. She started going to the games in college, and now has FSU memorabilia in her home.
When Scott isn’t at school, she likes to spend her time reading. One of her favorite books is “Matilda” by Roald Dahl; she also loves the movie and musical adaptation.
“I loved it [The Matilda Musical]. I was nervous at first, I didn’t think I was going to like it. I love musicals, but I was scared it was going to ruin my perception of the movie. It was wonderful, ” she said.
Scott hopes to have a long-lasting career in education and is very excited to get her start at Robinson.
