Dr. Bakht is Robinson High Schools new English teacher. She previously worked as a college professor at the University of Tampa for twenty years, but she decided to teach high schoolers instead.
“I previously worked as a college professor a long time ago, I’ve always worked with adults therefore I never would’ve thought I’d work with kids. Instead, I worked in a teaching and learning department, so I taught other teachers on how to handle students. So, I didn’t think I would work with high schoolers at the time, but I am glad I did,” Dr. Bakht said.
Due to a shortage of English teacher’s one of her friends recommended Robinson High School.
When hearing this, Dr. Bakht was retired, but she didn’t let that stop her from doing what she loves the most. Because of her research on middle and high schoolers, Dr. Bakht wanted to continue teaching students.
Dr. Bakht enjoys building bonds with the students here at Robinson and loves many of them. She states spending time with her classes is her favorite part of teaching, and it’s what she looks forward to the most within her day.
“The teaching aspect is not as much as it is me hanging out with the students,” Bakht said.
Outside of teaching, Dr. Bakht instructs yoga and enjoys watching anime at home. She also finds an interest in ‘Star Trek’ and considers herself a “nerd” when it comes to the show.
“Hobbies? I work too much to have real hobbies. I mean, I would rather make money in my hobbies. But I will say that I spend a lot of time being really obsessive about my shows.” Dr. Bakht said.
A piece of advice Dr. Bakht would give her students is to not cancel yourself.
“A lot of people say that they aren’t good enough to do something, but I think it’s important for people to not fire themselves. I know that it hurts, but it’s important that other people reject you, rather than you reject yourself. Never think you aren’t good enough or qualified for something,” Bakht said. “It’s important for people to play their position and stay in their lane. Know who you are, and stay there; don’t overstep into others’ lives. Because everyone has their own life to live, and sometimes the road will be crooked, and you won’t always get your way. But you won’t see what you can achieve until you try.”
