Lexus Bogert is the newest teacher at Robinson high school and teaches English, English 2 traditional and English 4 honors. This is also her first-year teaching. She comes from Florida State University, where she completed an internship in 7th, 8th and 12th grade classrooms before coming to Robinson.
Bogert also worked in a variety of jobs outside of education such as food services and leasing which helped her develop people skills that now she carries into teaching. This helped her believe that education should be both engaging and fun.
”She’s definitely really nice and I love the way she teaches our class. I also love the way her class is set up and how nice she is,” A student of hers Jade Cole (’28) said.
Her passion for teaching is inspired from the time when she was in school, and the ways her teacher taught her made her find her voice and overcome challenges.
“I got to a point where I was looking at the past and reflecting on it and I wouldn’t be in the place where I am now if it wasn’t for the teacher that supported me and gave me my voice when I needed to be heard,” Bogert said.
She hopes to do the same for her students by making learning relevant to their interests for students to enjoy them. Most importantly, she explains how there’s comfort and connection in her classroom and believes that no real learning happens unless students feel safe and respected in the space.
“I’m going to use crime documentaries as examples that center around what we’re learning because it’s going to keep them more engaged and create a better and more comfortable learning environment,” she said.
Although she originally considered USF, a colleague encouraged her to look into Robinson, and after researching about the school, she knew it would be the right school for her.
“I really liked the school atmosphere and what the school culture seemed to be like and I’m really glad about that decision I made because it has lived up to every expectation I’ve had,” Bogert said.
As someone who once struggled to choose a career, but ultimately chose teaching because of the impact others had on her, Bogert feels happy with her position at Robinson.
This does not only introduce a new face at Robinson, but also emphasizes how the school grows stronger when a new teacher brings their passion and perspective into the community.
