Spring season is right around the corner. Along with it, Robinson’s girls’ and boys’ tennis team has recently been formed. With the boys’ team consisting of seventeen players and the girls consisting of a large mix of juniors and sophomores, the tennis teams seem to have a promising start.
One of the captains on the girls’ tennis team is Ally Clement (’23), and it is not her first time being the team captain. In fact, during her sophomore year, she was also given this role.
“There’s more responsibility being a captain. I sort of have to coordinate what uniforms we’re wearing, what fundraising we’re doing. We bring snacks to every match, so the captains need to see who’s bringing the snacks on what day. We have an Instagram, I don’t run it, but another captain runs that and helps with the drills during practice,” stated Clement.
Clement hopes to make it past districts this year, it would be a challenge, but she is confident in this year’s team. The majority of last year’s players rejoined this year, which means that the team now has a handful of more experienced players. This would make their goal of passing districts possible.
The girls’ team would like people to attend home games because it’s exciting and not too far. Although, most of their games are far away. The team really enjoy the far games because they are a lot of fun, and they get one or two days off.
The boys’ tennis team consists of juniors, two seniors and a couple of sophomores. The team seems to be doing well with their first real match being on Feb. 10.
“Our goal is just to improve everyone all around and then do well in district,” said Max Ruyle (’23) a member of the tennis team.
“We have a really good atmosphere, practices are a lot of fun, everyone is working together to improve and overall everyone is helping each other out,” said Ruyle.
The boys’ team is most excited about Robinson’s rival games against Plant High School. They want people to attend home games but most importantly the Plant one considering it would be the biggest game.
“I think our expectations are to just keep on improving and at the end of the season, be a lot better than we were at the beginning and hopefully win all of our matches,” said Ruyle.
Both teams have a very hopeful start, and as they keep up with the cheerful mindsets, hard practices, bonding exercises and fundraisers they are bound to accomplish their goals and much more.
