The final minutes and a few culminating plays defined the outcome of the district matchup against Jesuit on Friday, October 13. The Knights led the Tigers throughout the game, but gave up the lead with three minutes left in the fourth quarter and lost 13-10.

Prior to the game at Jesuit, signs filled the entirety of the stadium to hype up the Tigers. From phrases saying, “Robinstinks” to paintings of a Knight getting murdered by chainsaws, the Tiger crowd had built a solid atmosphere.

But that didn’t stop the Knights from playing their game.

Neither teams could get their offense rolling in the first quarter, until the Tigers kicked a 32-yard field goal with four minutes remaining.

Trailing 3-0, the Knights made their comeback early in the second quarter. Vincent Fuggetta (’18) recovered a Jesuit fumble at the Tiger’s 20 yard line and ran the ball into the end zone, giving the Knights the lead.

Key defensive stops from Chase Volpi (’18), Tevin Fordham (’18) and Eann Johnson (’18) and catches from Johnson and Quinton Lane (’19) helped the Knights maintain their lead for a major portion of the game. A 31-yard field goal for kicker William Roseman (’18) was essential to the Knights’ early lead as well.

Jesuit got multiple sacs throughout the night, one of which resulted in a safety right before the end of the first half. But the third quarter remained mellow.

With time trickling down in the fourth quarter, the Tigers began making moves on offense. A long run off of a punt return put Jesuit in the red zone and a few consecutive runs gave them the go-ahead touchdown.

With two minutes remaining, the Knights quickly drove down the field but a fumble from Kobe Kopple (’18) was recovered by the Tigers, ending Robinson’s chances of a comeback.

Head coach Shawn Taylor declined to comment on tonight’s loss.
