With just over a month before Robinson’s prom, the senior class officers have chosen a theme, with the approval of the administrators, for this year– Masquerade.

Prom will be March 24 from 7-11 p.m. at Brian Glazier Family J.C.C. (522 N Howard Ave., 33606). Tickets will be on sale soon starting at $65 online at mypaymentsplus.com. Prices may be reduced to $45 for students on Principal’s Honor Roll. Only juniors and seniors are allowed to buy tickets, but underclassmen are permitted by invitation only.

Lane Johansen, Student Government President, (’18) was one of the officers who helped pitch the idea.

“I’ve wanted a masquerade theme since freshman year,” Johansen said. “The more we talked about it, the more we got excited because we’ve never really had an actual prom theme.”

In past years, the name of Robinson’s prom has been called “The Knight of Nights” or even “An Enchanted Knight,” but this will be the first year for an actual theme.

Although some juniors and seniors seem to be loving the change, there are some doubts about how many people will participate and wear a mask.

“I’m not sure if the whole school will participate, but everyone I’ve talked to about it so far seems super excited,” Johansen said.

Senior Mileena Wilkins agrees, saying she “thinks a lot of people are really going to get into it and have a lot of fun.”

Wearing a mask is encouraged, but definitely not mandatory.

“In fact, students are not allowed to wear them in the line to enter,” Kristina Chowning said. “We need to be able to see who is coming in [to the dance].”

“I’m excited for [prom] since it’s my last year,” Wilkins said. “Being able to create and wear your own mask is pretty creative so I like it.”
