An update from the district on outsourcing custodians

The Robinson journalism staff published an article in the most recent edition of Knight Writers discussing Hillsborough County Public Schools’ proposal to outsource custodians.

While we waited for our issue to print, Chris Farkas, the district’s Deputy Superintendent for Operations sent a letter to custodians which contained new information.

In the letter, Farkas claims that Hillsborough County plans to centralize preexisting custodial employees. “Custodians would stay as our disctrict employees, with district-provided benefits,” Farkas said.

He also writes that the district will create a panel comprised of custodians from across the Hillsborough County to work with them as they outsource custodial services.

However, these pledges have yet to be put into effect and this story is ongoing. Keep watching for further news.
