As April 23 approaches, Juniors and Seniors prepare for the first prom since the beginning of COVID-19. The Robinson Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is hosting a prom clothing shop for gently used prom dresses/suits starting Tuesday, April 5 through Thursday, April 7 during all lunches in the gym/auditorium lobby.

PTSA held a similar dress/suit shop during the beginning of the year for Homecoming. The idea originated from PTSA parent representative president Ami Granger Welch and student representative vice president Cassidy Chapman (’23). Despite the fact that this is the club’s first year running the program, they’ve seen tremendous success and plan to do it again in the future.

“People should stop by the dress/suit shop because it offers a wide variety of dresses and suits for both men and women that allows them to express themselves and who they are,” Chapman said. “The clothing is all in great condition and is super cute and stylish. I have actually found a lot of good pieces myself.”

The goal of the shop is to help individuals who cannot afford a prom dress or suit, which can cost anywhere from $100 to $600. Not to mention, along with the tickets, students nowadays are spending hundreds and thousands of dollars just for this one special night.

“The clothes are all donations and can be resonated when done being used or you can even keep it,” Chapman said. “It’s basically like a free thrift store.”

All items are free of charge. It’s encouraged for all students, especially those going to prom, to go check out the shop.

“Even though I’m not going to prom, the clothing shop is a chance for everyone to get an equal chance to dress up and have fun,” Ella Garruto (’24) said. “I think it’s cool they’re doing this because it’s good for the environment since the clothes won’t end up in landfills.”
