The water at school has been broken all this week, leaving students to find water bottles and eat a cold lunch from the cafeteria.
All of the water fountains at school are currently blocked off my plastic bags because the city does not want anyone drinking the school’s water until they figure out how to fix the problem.
“One of the pipes next to the elevator busted which caused the water to start rising,” Assistant Principal for Administration Napolean Wade said. “Once that happens it could have potentially caused a sinkhole. So, in order to prevent that we had to shut off all the water and make sure no water was available until we addressed that problem and got it fixed. We had to dig up the dirt and drain out that water and fix the pipe, once we did that, we [turned] the water back on and tested it, no more water came out the pipe, once we knew we fixed the problem correctly.”
On Friday afternoon the water was turned back on. The cafeteria is back to serving its normal menu next week.
“We have fixed the water problem around the school and are now going to take off the plastic bags from the water fountains and water bottle re-fillers so that people are able to access water when they need it,” Wade said. “The students and teachers can fill up their water bottles again.”
