Next Big Thing Concert Unforgettable
December 11, 2014
On Saturday, December 6, the radio station 97X held their annual Next Big Thing Concert at Vinoy Park from 12:30 P.M. to 9:45 P.M. It took place in an enclosed grassy area by the water. The event had a stage for the alternative rock bands that were performing as well as many stands for the teenagers and the 40-year-olds to get food. The bands that played, in order of appearance, were: Young Rising Sons, Bear Hands, Big Data, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, New Politics, Dirty Heads, Alt-J, Young The Giant, and lastly, the main group that everyone was waiting for – Fall Out Boy. The crowd gradually got bigger as the sun went down, and the people became more enthusiastic. Many fans in the audience would crowd surf, and if you (126) were in the middle of the crowd, you were experiencing utter craziness. Numerous lead singers from bands, such as Sameer Gadhia of Young The Giant and Peter Wentz of Fall Out Boy, walked up to the front row of fans and made them even more excited than they already were. Some people in the crowd even held David Boyd of New Politics’ ankles so he was standing up. Personally, I’ve never been to a concert that crazy and with that many bands, but I would love to go to a second. Overall, the concert was a blast for many, and most definitely a day that I, as well as the other concert-goers, will never forget.
