Summer self care: a thread

As the school year comes to an end and summer makes its way into the picture, social media has begun filling with posts about the upcoming beach season. With this in mind, YouTubers and Instagram models are once again focusing on how to get a “beach bod”, how to be trendy, etc.

Recently however, people have taken self-love into their own hands, and begun using twitter as a platform to promote health and happiness. Because every body is a beach body.

Health is important, mental and physical. It is also important to know your own limits and set feasible goals. Building self confidence takes patience and understanding, get to know your body and find ways to accomplish small goals often.

Here are some ways to help add confidence and boost your mood this summer.

Make breakfast

How you start your day can affect how the rest of it goes. Take a few minutes, breakfast can fuel your day and add some extra happiness to it.

On the go? Grab a granola bar and some yogurt.

Like eggs? Pair it with toast and some avocado.

Other options include waffles and fruit, french toast, or bacon an omelet.

Dry Skin

Skin hydration is key.

Using a sheet mask twice a week can help your skin stay smooth and healthy. Avoid clay masks and masks that dry on your face, they tend to suck up the moisture leaving skin feeling stiff after.

Coconut oil, shea butter, and lavender are all natural options that help soothe dry skin.

Oily Skin

Using dermatologist recommended face wash can help with oily skin.

Clay masks and peel off skin masks can help detox the skin while helping dry the skin out some.

Oil blotting sheets are also good to carry. Using skin type specific foundation can also help keep skin from getting super oily.

If you’re feeling bloated

Try swapping out a few carbonated beverages for water, and if you’re feeling bold, add some lemon! Sodas and other fizzy drinks can cause your stomach to feel bloated and make you burp due to the carbon dioxide released when consumed. Another way to make yourself feel a little boost is through eating more protein and less carbs.

Green tea is a good supplement to combat bloating. Potassium rich foods such as bananas also help.

Add something new

Change up your wardrobe by adding an accessory or doing something different.

Jewelry and shoes can be an easy accent to add to any outfit to add a little flare without having to go out and splurge on clothes.

if you normally wear your hair up, put it in braids or go for a casual half-up-half-down look.

Make a playlist

Using your preferred music platform, combine your favorite songs and artists to make that perfect summer sound. Music is an easy way to relieve stress and find your happy place.

Get some sun

Make sure you wear sunscreen, even when you’re tanning. Skin care is important keep your skin happy and healthy, and moisture is a necessity.
Hydration and moisturizing are critical even when you’ve been inside.

Exercise

Exercise doesn’t have to be a marathon, going for a walk can speed your metabolism and help you sweat out toxins.

Go for a swim, do some cardio, go rollerskating, go biking. Get your heart rate up by jumping rope!

There are many ways to be active other than the traditional “running”.

Get some sleep

Sleep is important. Summer is a good time to catch up on sleep and get a sleep schedule in order. Too little sleep can cause a lack in energy, stress, short temper. Too much sleep can cause soreness, and lethargy.

Lights can stimulate brain activity and cause a lighter sleep, causing the body to not rest as well. Colder temperatures also have been proven to help bring heavier sleep that lasts longer.

Mental health

Mental health is where self confidence comes from. Be productive- accomplishing goals, big or small, is worth celebrating. It may seem tempting to compare yourself to others, but your self worth is not based off of appearance. True beauty is found within.

These tips are only suggestions, and you are beautiful with or without them.
