Districts for swim team is approaching rapidly and the Robinson girl’s swim team is preparing to dominate on October 23rd at Bobby Hicks. The swim team has been improving and competing all through out the season so far to prepare for this meet.

The district competition sets the stage for swim team members that are planning to compete at the regional and maybe even state level. This competition is different from other competitions as the team aspect of swim is completely gone.

“It’s more of an individual thing and if one person goes to state the whole team doesn’t go but, I’m hoping that everyone makes it to regional,” Sadie Jacobson (’21) said.

The whole team does not compete in the district meet. Only some members  will be chosen to swim for Robinson against all of the other schools in the districts.

“They’ll be about sixteen swimmers in districts,” coach Tom Atkins said.

Many girls are hoping to get a spot in districts to represent their school. Even though only a few of the top swim team members get to attend this meet, member is working hard and trying their best to make the cut.

“I have to make sure that I eat well and get lots of rest during practice I have to put a good effort in for the sets,” captain Sophie Abel (’19) said.

To prepare for the meet, practices have gotten a lot harder. The swimmers have to be ready for a tough competition so their coaches have intensified workouts. Sets have become longer and swimmers are striving to increase their speed through repetition.

“They are swimming a lot and we are doing a lot of speed work and a lot of stroke work,” Atkins said.

Swimmers notice the change but want to keep working hard to get their chance to make the big competition.

“The practice has gotten a little harder in the past week but after we find out who gets into districts it’s definitely going to get harder the next 3 weeks after that before districts,” Fisher said.

Abel uses the drive to reach districts in a positive, motivational way to help her throughout the swim season.

“It gives me a goal to look for throughout the season like just make it to districts make it to regional,” Abel said.

Once students make the cut and get to districts they are faced with the daunting competition and lively environment that follows it.

“It’s very energetic and everybody just wants to do well in their event so everyone is just super hyped up and ready to go,” said Abel.
