With Halloween quickly approaching, I know everyone loves to get into the spooky spirit. There are tons of scary movies to watch, whether they are a classic or even a brand new one, and it can be intimidating on where to even begin.

Here are some films that you can watch on different apps. All of the ratings are from IMDB.

New Films: 

• Wrong Turn: This was released 2021, and is a reboot of the classic series of wrong turn. Wrong Turn movies are known for their blood, gore, and very gruesome scenes, so if you have a weak stomach I would not recommend this film. This movie was rated 5.5/10
• Malignant: This was released 2021 and is about a woman who is paralyzed by fear from her own shocking visions. Her torment then worsens as she discovers her waking dreams are terrifying realities. This movie was rated 6.3/10 and is also available on HBOmax.

CLASSICS:

• Friday the 13th: This is a collection of films all about some people who go out to a lake or out camping where the urban legend of Jason lives. Until they actually go there and discover everything is what they said.  This film can be watched on Hulu.
• Nightmare on Elm Street: Many teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger, who is a midnight mangler that comes in their dreams. Whatever happens in their dreams turn to a reality, living their worst nightmare. This film can be watched on HBOmax. Rating: 7/10
•  The Conjuring: The conjuring is a collection of films that all deal with paranormal activity. This film is based on a true story and a family moves into a new home that comes with an uninvited guest. This guest torments everyone in the family and possesses them to do things. This film can be watched on Netflix or HBOmax. Rated 7.5/10
• Annabelle: John thinks he has found the perfect gift for his wife a doll. However he was unaware this doll possess great sinister power. The Annabelle doll is indeed real and is locked up in a case and on display in a museum. This film was rated 5.4/10 and can be watched on HBOmax.
• Monster House: This is an animated film that is about three boys who believe this house in their neighborhood is alive. With Halloween approaching these boys needs to destroy this house and protect all the trick or treaters from it. It is on Netflix and was given a 6.5/10 rating.
• Coraline: Coraline was exploring her new home and discovers a secret door. Behind that door is an alternative reality of her life, but in many ways better. Coraline has to fight for herself in going back to her original home and family. Rating 7.7/10, can not be watched on any listed streaming apps.

Netflix:

• Till Death: Till Death is a 2021 film that stars Megan Fox who is wrapped up in her boring marriage. Evidently her husband plans an exciting trip and then one day she wakes up handcuffed next to his dead body. She then starts to unravel his dark twisted plan and fight for her life. This movie is not very “scary” per say, but it does have a lot of suspense and blood/gore. This movie was given a 5.8/10
• The 8th Night: This film was also released in 2021 and is about a monk who has prayer beads in one hand and an axe in the other who is hunting down a spirit that possesses humans and unleashing a sinister terror on Earth. This film has been rated a 5.4/10
• In the Tall Grass: This film was released in 2019 and is about a brother and sister who enter a field of tall grass. However they soon realize they can not escape and something evil is always watching. This film has been rated a 5.4/10.

HULU:

• Willy’s Wonderland: When his car breaks down he then agrees to clean up and old abandoned family fun center. He soon finds himself waging war against possessed animatronic mascots while trapped inside Willy’s Wonderland. 5.5/10 rating.
• It and Stephen King’s It: Hulu offers both the remake and the original Steph Kings It on Hulu. It is about a clown who preys on young kids and creates a disappearance. Nobody knows how or what it’s weakness is and has to fight for their lives. 7.3/10
• The Resort: A group of adults go on to live their best lives and travel to Hawaii in search of the infamous half faced girl. However they go to a discreet island where they soon find out they are not the only ones… Given a 3/10 rating.

HBOMAX:

• Corpse and Bride: This is an animated film where Victor  and Victoria’s families have arranged their marriage. Though they like each other, Victor is nervous about the ceremony. While he’s in a forest practicing his lines for the wedding, a tree branch becomes a hand that drags him to the land of the dead. It belongs to Emily, who was murdered after eloping with her love and wants to marry Victor. Victor must get back aboveground before Victoria marries the villainous Barkis Bittern. Rating 7.3/10

• Orphan: Devastated by the loss of their unborn baby, Kate and John decide to adopt a child. At the orphanage, both feel drawn to a little girl named Esther, and soon the couple take their new daughter home. But when a dangerous series of events unfolds, Kate begins to suspect that there is something evil lurking behind the child’s angelic exterior.

Disney+:

• The Nightmare Before Christmas: Although this is classified as a “Christmas” movie it can be a Halloween one as well. Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.” When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life. He then plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can not live up to his expectations. Rating 8/10. 
• Hocus Pocus: After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison. After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal. Rating 6.9/10
• Halloweentowns: This is a series of films. Marnie and her kids get a big shock when they follow grandma home to Halloweentown – and find out they come from a family of witches. The town is the only place where supernatural beings can lead a `normal’ life, but trouble is looming, and on her 13th birthday Marnie not only finds she is a witch, but that she and her family are involved in a fight against the evil that is threatening to take over the world. Rating: 6.7/10 , can also be watched on Hulu.
