Last Friday, Jan. 17, the boys soccer team faced off against the Sickles Gryphons for their senior night game.
All eight seniors plus junior Jerson Camacho, who is leaving to hopefully play professionally for Columbia, had a great senior night presentation.
The Knights started off strong, and were passing fluently.
At the end of a great drive, a freshman forward of the Knights, named David Juric (’17), chipped the ball right over the Gryphon goalie for the first goal of the night.
The defense for both teams were dominating for a while, but fifteen minutes into the quarter, the Gryphons had a beautiful drive going until Knights goalie Robert Weiner (’15) blocked the shot with a sliding catch. Unfortunately, Weiner got kicked in the stomach while blocking the shot, but he got up and said that he was fine.
The Gryphons made the next goal off of a through pass to even the game up.
With the last few seconds of the first half counting down, the Gryphons try for another goal, but Knight’s senior Dylan Morales stops the play only to roll his ankle as the clock ran out. He limped off the field, and was able to play later.
The second half was not as close of a match. Sickles scored two goals back-to-back, and that was the end of the game.
The boys will be playing their first district game at Jesuit on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
