Soccer Recap: Jefferson at Robinson
November 13, 2015
After disappointing losses at Alonso Tuesday, both the boys and girls bounced back with wins over Jefferson at home Thursday night.
Boys notch first win of the season
After a 3-1 loss at Alonso on Tuesday, Robinson (1-2) got right back on the field on Thursday night, picking up a 2-0 win over Jefferson (1-2).
“The team needed it for sure,” David Stevens (’16) said. “It builds our confidence, our chemistry and it shows us we have what it takes to be a really good team.”
After a scoreless first half, Stevens put two past the Jefferson goalkeeper to give the Knights their first victory of the season.
“The team helped me out and I finally got shots on target so I tried to capitalize for my team,” Stevens said. “They did their job and I’m glad I got to do mine correctly this game.”
Thursday’s win served as an important step forward for the team early on in the season.
“I feel really good about our team and the direction we’re headed,” he said. “We’re getting on the track we should be [on].”
Girls bounce back with rout of Jefferson
The Lady Knights (3-2) rebounded from Tuesday night’s frustrating loss with an 8-0 blowout victory over Jefferson (0-3). Robinson continued to display the same offensive efficiency that allowed them to put up 12 goals in their previous four games.
“Our team is finally clicking and working together,” team captain Megan Bohan (’16) said. “Every player contributes and all of the new players [have shown] great potential.”
Five different players scored on Thursday night, with Sarah Jennewein (’17) leading the way with a hat trick and an assist. Bohan came through with two goals and two assists while MacKenzie Johnson (’16), Tess Brookes (’16) and Regan Weil (’19) chipped in with a goal each.
“We moved some people to new positions and added in some of the new players and through all of this change, we’ve started to see the talent we have,” Bohan said.
Robinson soccer will next host Blake on Tuesday night. The boys will once again take the field at 6:00 p.m. before the girls’ 8:00 p.m. start time.
