Boys Basketball

After a 91-67 victory over Spoto (8-11) last Friday, Robinson (12-9) picked up a big 84-74 win over rival Plant (4-19) on Wednesday night.

“I can’t say it enough, if it wasn’t for [my teammates], I wouldn’t be able to do what I do,” team captain Iyan Mitchell said. “When people came up to me telling me I had 32 points, I wasn’t really surprised because that’s what I’m supposed to do. I’m supposed to lead my team to victory and keep everybody mentally in the game.”

Along with his 32 points, Mitchell added five assists and three steals while Francisco Mediavilla (’16) finished with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

The Knights will take on Jesuit (19-2) on Friday night, looking for their first win over the Tigers since 2010. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Knights (17-5) saw their 12-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night at the hands of Plant (19-5).

“Our confidence level has not changed. We know what we are capable of,” Chrisheena Rolack (’16) said. “This loss motivates us to focus on the little things and execute what we know we can do well.”

The game was tied at halftime, but Plant outlasted Robinson in the second half to head home with a 44-38 victory. With the regular season behind them, the Lady Knights will shift their attention to districts, which start on Tuesday.

Boys Soccer

The Knights opened up their playoff run with a 4-1 victory over Spoto (0-13) on Wednesday night.

David Stevens (’16), Sean Conley (’16), Charlie Draper (’17) and Solomon Browne (’18) all tallied goals on the night.

“It was a good all around team effort,” team captain Sean Conley (’16) said. “We did really well holding our formation and had a lot of opportunities offensively.”

Robinson (6-8-1) will head back to Spoto on Friday night to take on Middleton (4-5-1) in the district semifinals. A win would clinch the Knights a spot in regionals for the first time in school history.

“[Making regionals] would be a huge reward for all the hard work we’ve put in this season,” Conley said.

Girls Soccer

The Lady Knights are on to next Tuesday’s regional semifinals after a 5-1 victory over Boca Ciega on Thursday night.

“It was amazing. The offense played awesome,” Tatum Brookes (’16) said. “I don’t know what happened, but we were just really feeling it.”

Brookes led the way for Robinson, scoring four goals on the night.
Tuesday night’s regional semifinal matchup will feature the Lady Knights hosting Osceola (16-2-1).

Cheer

Robinson cheer qualified for states in last Friday’s regional competition. Before moving to the state competition, they will focus on Friday’s Western Conference competition at Durant. After struggling to qualify last week, the team underwent some changes to prepare for states.

“We completely changed all of the stunts and tumbling in our routine,” team captain Kelly Dorsey (’16) said. “I think we just need to focus on adjusting to the differences and not making any mental errors.”

The state meet is Jan. 29-30 at the USF Sun Dome.

Wrestling

In last week’s 10-way meet at East Bay, the Knights finished 9-1 as a team, with their only loss coming against perennial powerhouse Brandon. On Thursday’s senior night, the team lost a close match with Riverview.

“Although we finished 9-1 [last week], we didn’t wrestle our best,” team captain Chad Heidt (’16) said. “We’re each prepared for a tough next couple of weeks with six meets in the next 10 days between both JV and varsity.”

Robinson will next host the Hillsborough County Duals on Friday and Saturday.
