Golf falls to Plant in season opener
August 23, 2016
Robinson’s golf teams lost to Plant Monday at MacDill Air Force Base’s Bay Palm Golf Course, the girls falling 199-193 and the boys 228-143.
Even though the Knights have never beaten the Panthers, head coach Lisa Ceely-Derathe didn’t just have winning on the mind.
“The main goal is to have fun,” she said. “Focus on having fun.”
For captain Anna Gilhool (‘17), fun is how she is able to work through tough days on the course.
“Golf is a very mental game and it is really easy to get mad at yourself after a bad shot,” Gilhool said. “When things start to go bad it’s not so fun anymore and you beat yourself up, so I always remember to keep my head up.”
Gilhool was the girls’ top scorer, with her 43 besting Plant’s best score of 44.
On the boys’ side, Matt Montoya (’18) led the Robinson team with 53 points, 20 points over the Panther’s match-highest 33 points
The Knights face Armwood Monday, August 29 in a district match. First swing is set for 3:15 p.m. at Diamond Hill Golf Club (13115 Sydney Rd, Dover, FL 33527).
