Mistakes costly in Knights’ 22-8 loss to Blake
August 26, 2016
After a 29-0 blowout at the hands of Pinellas Park in last week’s preseason matchup, the Knights looked for redemption in their home opener against Blake but found none in a 22-8 loss, breaking a 13-year winning streak against the Yellow Jackets.
During the first drive of the game, Blake’s center snapped the ball over their quarterback’s head, resulting in a safety for the Knights. Robinson couldn’t hold onto the early 2-0 lead, however, fumbling on the following series and giving up a pick six.
An interception for Robinson, turned into a fumble recovered by Blake, soon allowed Blake to score again, and a safety against Robinson further increased the Yellow Jackets’ lead. Robinson’s Eann Johnson (‘18) intercepted the ball, with a 15-yard run by Fitzgerald lining the Knights up for field goal by William Roseman (‘18).
Robinson started off the third quarter stronger, recovering a Blake fumble that led to Roseman’s second field goal of the night.
Late in the fourth quarter, Blake sealed their victory with an 85-yard run into the endzone and a two-point conversion, ending the game 22-8.
Offensively, the Knights struggled, getting sacked 12 times during the game. Both teams racked up errors, as the Knights received 14 penalties to the Yellow Jackets’ 17.
Robinson (0-1) looks for their first win next Friday in a non-district matchup against the Wharton Wildcats. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Wharton High School (20150 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa, FL 33647).
