As an emotionally exhausted Bucs fan, I am relieved that they moved on from Dirk Koetter and signed Bruce Arians as their new head coach. It was time for a fresh start and Arians is perfect for the job.

History shows that Arians can lead a team and produce wins, as he only had one losing season in his five years as the head coach for the Arizona Cardinals, while he made the playoffs in two of those seasons. He served as offensive coordinator on several great teams as well, working with some of the best quarterbacks of the past 15 years.

Arians has also brought along two promising coordinators that should help put the talent into the best positions to win games. New defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has had his hands on some solid defenses whether he was a head coach or a defensive coordinator. New offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has very little coaching experience, but has received praise from Arians as a great offensive mind.

Dirk Koetter had his chance with this team, but just failed to produce any promising results. In his three seasons as our head coach, he won just 19 games while losing 28 games, with only one barely winning season.

The defense under Koetter was just depressing to watch, as teams could pass the ball down the field whenever they pleased. The offense got a lot of yards, but that did not translate to a lot of points due to Koetter’s terrible play calling in the redzone. He was supposed to nurture quarterback Jameis Winston into a star quarterback, but Winston regressed into a league laughing stock.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made the correct choice in making Koetter walk the proverbial plank and getting a seasoned coach like Arians to put this ship back on the correct path towards success.
