Robinson’s wrestling team loses 41-39 against Gaither and comes back, beating Freedom 54-26. District Duals were hosted by Jesuit, where they, Gaither, Freedom and Robinson competed in a four school bracket.

Robinson faced off against Gaither in the district semi-finals where the two kept pace until Gaither pulled ahead in the end, with their final match resulting in a two point lead over Robinson.

After moving into the district consolation finals, Robinson dueled Freedom. The resulting 54-26 point win placed Robinson third overall at districts. The Robinson wrestling team will not be advancing to Regional Duals, but head coach Thomas Montero is confident moving forward.

“We still have plenty of season to turn it around. We’ve got a young team out there, about five or six guys that have any experience. The young guys are just going to get better,” Wrestling coach Thomas Montero said.

The wrestling team is working towards their next chance to win a district title at the Individually Bracketed Tournament (IBT).

“They’re working hard out there… we don’t call it losing we call it learning,” Montero said. “We win or we learn and yesterday was a learning experience and we have to take it one practice at a time and one match at a time after this.”

IBT’s take place Feb 22 and will be hosted by Jesuit high school.
