Senior Adeline Cloutier traveled to Ocala, FL this past weekend to compete in her 4th state swim competition. However, this time, she left a champion.
“The last three years, so my freshman, my sophomore and my junior year, I have gotten second in both of my events for swim consistently at states. So this year, getting first was definitely sort of like just a relief in a way, and just it felt really good just to see the one next to my name when I looked up on the scoreboard,” Cloutier said. “Backstroke has been an event that I’ve, like worked really hard in for the past, like year now. So, I feel like my hard work paid off, and I was super excited.”
As the girl’s swim captain, she is under a lot of pressure to preform her best. She tries to keep motivated by maintaining her confidence.
“I would say that there was a certain amount of pressure on me, not from anyone in particular, just the pressure that I put on myself to get first, just because it’s been a goal of mine since freshman year, and just getting second every year by like hundredths of a second,” Cloutier said. “Obviously it was, like, it was, it was so close, but like, so far at the same time. So finally, like, getting it, it was just, like, a happy moment.”
Cloutier breaking her second-place curse has gotten her closer to her goals for competitive swimming.
“I think it’s just a good achievement moving forward. And Florida High School Swimming is one of the biggest High School Swimming stages.” she said. “I think Florida is probably the most competitive state, I would say, for swimming, especially at the high school level. So, I think just getting gold is a good achievement at the state level, and it just like, sort of sets me up for swimming at bigger stages, and like going to bigger meets in the future, like for Ireland, and like the college scene, which is exciting.”
Praises her coaches’ efforts in training her. She looks towards future swimming competitions.
