On April 22, boys tennis faced Hardee High School on April 22 for regionals at the Himes YMCA. Playing in five lines of singles matches and two doubles, the Knights won overall with a score of 7-0. They moved on to regional finals on April 25, qualifying for the state tournament in Orlando next week.
“We’ve been playing good. We’re looking forward to states next week and I think we have a good team, better than we’ve had in the past years. We’ve got some good freshmen, and we’ve been practicing, so I think we have our best shot that we’ve had in any year that I’ve been here,” boys tennis captain Nate Clement (’25) said.
The majority of the boys on the Robinson tennis team also participate in the IB program, so their commitment to the tennis team serves as a testament to their dedication to the sport. As IB, AICE and AP exams ramp up, it’s difficult to balance sports with academics; nevertheless, the boys tennis team has excelled.
“Robinson is going to be at state for the third year in a row, which is very exciting. I tell my boys the same thing all the time, that the object is to have fun and play within yourself and sometimes you’re going to play players that are better than you and if they beat you, then make them beat you. Don’t lose when you play players that may not be as good, don’t play their game. Play your own game and go out and do the best you can,” boys tennis coach Steve Rosen said.
