Hidden gems of Tampa
September 23, 2018
Growing up in Tampa, you swear that you’ve seen everything. You drive the same streets, eat at the same places, visit the same shops. But there are plenty unknown parts of Tampa that deserve to shine. Here some of the city’s best hidden gems.
Yogurt Naturally
Everyone swears that their ice cream shop has the best ice cream, but Yogurt Naturally actually does. Every bite of both their ice cream and their soft-serve frozen yogurt is pure bliss. Yogurt Naturally is an independent ice cream shop that makes their own waffle cones, and walking in you can smell the sweetness in the air. Relatively cheap and extremely delicious, Yogurt Naturally is a frozen treat perfect for either a hot day or when you’re craving an ice cream cone.

Wat Thai Temple Sunday market
While the market itself is a little out of the way, it is well worth it. The Wat Tampa temple has a Thai Sunday market that serves authentic Thai food prepared by Temple volunteers. The market is from 8:30 am to 1 pm and is cash only. Visitors can eat their freshly prepared food under the shade of the trees and the calmness of the temple. All proceeds from the market go towards upkeep of the temple, and the market is a relaxing (and delicious) way to spend a Sunday morning.

Squaresville is not your typical thrift shop, it’s a thrift shop specifying in vintage clothes from the 50’s through the 80’s. Relatively cheap, the store sells authentic clothing straight from the past, with a personal favorite being the horribly terrific shoes of the 80’s. Squaresville has become a Tampa favorite for hipsters and lovers of vintage clothing.

Going to the movie theater is a popular form of Friday night entertainment, yet movie prices and and the boring atmosphere can dampen even the best movie. Although drive-in theaters may seem like a thing of the past, there is still a family-friendly theater near Tampa. Ruskin Family Drive-in Theatre prides itself on its cheap prices, child play areas, and clean environment. Located in Ruskin (only around 30 minutes from Robinson), the theater screens mostly kids movies, is cash-only, and has a $6 fee for all people over 9 years.
