I am going to be honest, the second season of “Cheer” was not as good as the first.

The second season of “Cheer”, a Netflix series released on Jan. 12, left me undecided on if I liked it or not. The show had ups and downs, twists and turns, which definitely kept me involved. However, there were some parts that were slow and lost my attention for an episode or two. I am not saying the season was bad, but I’m also not saying it was the best thing on Earth. Also, in my opinion, it wasn’t as good as the first season.

The first season of “Cheer” basically ends with Navarro College winning the NCA Championship in Daytona, Fla. “Daytona”, as all the Cheer world calls it, is a really big tournament that a lot of teams work for. It shows all the work and preparation that Navarro does to get to Daytona. Once the show came out onto Netflix, a lot of the players that were showcased on “Cheer” (and that play for Navarro), got a huge following on many social media platforms. And that’s how the second season starts out. The show also displays some of the hardships that go along with fame.

Halfway through season two, they talked about Jerry Harris. Harris was someone on the show that had gained one of the biggest followings. He met Oprah, Joe Biden and talked to a lot of Celebrities on the red carpet. He was on the highest pedestal… until he wasn’t. The show reveals that he was charged for soliciting sexual images from minors. I think the directors and producers handled this in the best way possible. They explained the situation in-depth and even involved the kids who interacted with Harris to hear the story. They featured some of the other cheerleaders on Navarro to get their reactions towards the situation. Many of his close teammates were sad and confused.

I definitely recommend watching “Cheer” so you can form your own opinion. I did get bored at some points in time, but some of the actual cheerleading parts were very entertaining. If you like encaptivating shows where it is going to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time, this might not be the show for you. If you have run out of shows to watch and just want some background noise, this will bring you great satisfaction.
