“That’s so brat.” Anyone over the age of 30 may be confused on what this term means. When googled, the term is defined as “a child, typically a badly behaved one.” Typically, a word used in a derogatory way has been connotated to a whole new meaning or even lifestyle some may argue.
“Brat Summer” is a whole new take on 2019’s “Hot girl Summer.” The genres of the year have definitely been Pop and House music. Charli mixes the art of both into a perfect creation of hyper pop which gets everyone dancing and singing. Releasing the original studio album “brat” on June 7, Charli received nothing but love from Gen Z. The album hits number 3 on the Billboard 200 in the United States and number two on the UK albums chart. Fans universally were enthralled by the new aesthetic trend of a cool party girl, but it doesn’t end there.
Charli decides to extend Brat summer into a Brat year by teasing posters around the world of the famous brat font and lime green color backwards of artists featured on the album. On Oct. 11, “Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat,” is released. The album includes all the original songs, but each are remixed with different featured artists: bb tricks, Ariana Grande, Kesha, and so many more.
One of my new favorites is “Club classics” featuring bb trickz. Before the remix this song was one of my favorites because of its upbeat rhythm. Now, I love the song even more because of Spanish rapper’s bb trickz’s feature, the remix includes her sassy Spanish verses that add even more spunk to the song.
Another song I love is “Spring breakers” featuring Kesha. Kesha is known for her fame in dance and electro pop, her feature in one of Charli’s songs makes perfect sense. The song feels straight out of the 2000 with its party lyrics and electric sound.
I fully believe in remixes as it creates a whole new song. “Girl, so confusing” featuring Lorde is my favorite song by Charli and I only listen to the remix version now. I feel that Charli’s hyper pop songs make it perfect for remixes but not every artist should attempt it.
Charli embraces a whole new vibe to partying with none of the shameful stigma. Her reject of what’s trending makes her an unintentional trend-setter. As well as her vibe of going against the status quo and making choices that are “uncool” is what makes her such an icon. Charli’s popstar spirit blends with her individual integrity makes her so different from the rest. With her tour just about ending, we wait in anticipation for what she decides to do next.
