On Friday, Oct. 25, Sabrina Carpenter performed in Amalie Arena, and it was hands-down the best performance I have ever seen. With her effortless stage presence, mesmerizing choreography, catchy songs and interactivity, Carpenter made it a night to remember.
After releasing her latest album, “Short n’ Sweet,” Carpenter has been busy on tour performing. She played mostly songs from her most recent album with a few from “emails i can’t send” including her first popular song “because i liked a boy” which has been a fan favorite for years.
She also had fun interactive moments, like ‘arresting’ a young woman for ‘being too hot.’ Another creative element was when Carpenter played Spin the Bottle with song choices and landed on “Material Girl.” She included the lyrics on the screen so all the fans in attendance could sing along as she performed. Additionally, whenever there was a costume change or intermission, she had fun “ad breaks” that would allude to the next song in the queue.
Another thing I enjoyed about this concert was the set. Carpenter has been famously compared to dolls such as Polly Pocket and Barbie, and her set looked like a house straight out of these toys. She has a mini bedroom, bathroom, balcony and different rooms and lights for each song. It felt very intimate this way like you were experiencing these songs within moments in her life.
Earlier in the tour, a fan slandered her for saying her singing was too much backing vocals and not enough of Carpenter’s sound. Carpenter must have taken this comment to heart, because her mic was definitely on during this show. Songs that I previously enjoyed were only enhanced by special riffs done live. Her natural voice was wonderful and added an entire new layer of emotion to her music, which is already very personal to her.
The choreography was amazing as well. Carpenter is a triple threat in the industry: a singer, dancer and actress, and she is great at all three. Her moves were dainty and fun, as is her music. She makes everything look so effortless, which I adore. Some artists put in minimal effort like Clairo, and some do entire performances like Taylor Swift, but Carpenter has the perfect balance.
Overall, this concert was definitely worth going to, my friends and I had so much fun dancing and singing along. Everyone showed up with cute outfits and good attitudes, the vibe in all was so sweet. Carpenter put on an amazing show and if anyone has the chance to see her, they should take it.
